How to change plans (upgrade or downgrade)
In Settings › Plan and billing, in the Plans section, click Switch to this plan and review the effect before you click Confirm switch. During the trial, the switch applies right away at no charge; after that, an upgrade applies right away with a prorated charge, and a downgrade applies at the end of the cycle.
Step by step
Open your plan
Go to Settings › Plan and billing and scroll down to Plans.
Pick the new plan
On the plan you want, click Switch to this plan.
Review the effect
The Switch to plan dialog shows the new price and what happens: when it applies, how much is charged now and whether there’s a credit.
Confirm
Click Confirm switch.
When the switch applies and what it costs
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| During the free trial | Applies right away, at no charge. The trial continues until its end date. |
| Upgrading to a larger plan | Applies right away. Today’s charge is prorated for the days left in the cycle, on a “Plan change” invoice. |
| Downgrading to a smaller plan | Applies at the end of the current cycle. Until then, you stay on your current plan, with no charge now. The screen shows “Switch to plan scheduled for date.” |
When the switch generates a credit, the dialog shows the amount, which is deducted from upcoming invoices.
Example with numbers
Example Co. (fictional data) is on Essential, on day 10 of a cycle that runs from the 1st to the 30th, and just hired a third salesperson. When it switches to Growth, the dialog shows that the switch applies now and that today’s charge is prorated for the 20 remaining days. The new limits apply immediately, and the salesperson’s invite can go out.
When the switch is blocked
To downgrade, your current usage must fit within the new plan’s limits. If it doesn’t, the dialog shows “Current usage exceeds this plan’s limits:” followed by the list, for example “Users: 5 in use, limit 3.” Reduce your usage (deactivate people, revoke pending invites, unselect ad accounts) and try again.
WhatsApp numbers keep counting even when disconnected, and there’s no button to delete a number. If you need to free one up, talk to us.
Subscribing before the trial ends
During the trial, you’ll see a Subscribe now button. It ends the trial immediately and starts the first subscription cycle today, with the first invoice: charged to the saved card, if there is one, or paid on the secure payment page. If the payment isn’t completed right away, the invoice stays open and you don’t lose access immediately.
Who can change plans
Only the billing account owner can change plans. People with billing access see the notice “Only the account owner can change the plan.” They can still use Subscribe now and pay invoices. See Who sees billing.
Didn’t work? See…
- “Switching plans from the dashboard is available once the account subscription is open. Until then, contact support.”: your subscription hasn’t been created yet. Talk to us.
- The Switch to this plan button doesn’t show up: the plan has no price in your account’s currency (“No price in currency”), or you’re not the account owner.
- I hit a limit and don’t know which plan solves it: see Plan limit reached.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose data when I downgrade?
No. Changing plans only changes the limits and the price. If your usage exceeds the smaller plan’s limits, the switch is blocked until you reduce it.
Can I change plans during the trial?
Yes, as many times as you like. It applies right away, at no charge, and the trial continues until its original end date.
