Password and access: change your password, forgot password and sign out

Updated

There’s no “Forgot password” option on the sign-in page. Passwords are set by an owner or manager in Settings › Team, by editing the person (the New password (optional) field). If the person who forgot is the owner, or someone who belongs to more than one organization, get in touch with us.

Change a team member’s password

Step by step

  1. Open the person

The manager goes to Settings › Team and clicks View next to the person.

  2. Edit

They click Edit, fill in New password (optional) with at least 10 characters and save.

  3. Share the password carefully

Send the new password through a private channel. All of the person’s open sessions end, and they sign in again with the new password.

The field takes at least 10 characters; leave it blank to keep the current password. There are two exceptions:

  • Owner: only the owner can change their own password (“Only the owner can change the owner’s role, status, name and password.”).
  • Someone who belongs to another organization: their name and password are the same in every organization, so only they can change them (“This person is also in another organization: only they can change their name and password.”).

Change your own password

Owners and managers change their own password the same way: in Settings › Team, they open their own profile, click Edit and fill in New password (optional). As the screen warns, changing your password ends the session: you sign in again with the new password. Salespeople don’t have this screen and ask a manager to change it.

Example

João, a salesperson at Example Co. (fictional data), came back from vacation without remembering the password for john@example.com. He told Paula, the manager, who opened João in Team, set a 12-character temporary password and sent it in a private message. João signed in right away; any old session of his, on another computer, was ended.

Sign-in locked after failed attempts

After several wrong passwords in a row, the sign-in page shows “Too many attempts. Try again in …” and refuses new attempts for a few minutes, even with the right password. This protects you from people trying to guess passwords. Wait the time shown; retrying won’t help.

Sessions and signing out

  • Your session expires after a few hours; then the dashboard asks you to sign in again (“Session expired. Log in again.”).
  • To sign out, use Sign out in the user menu. Always do this on a shared computer.
  • Deactivating a person or changing their role ends their sessions in the organization immediately.

For an extra layer of protection, turn on two-step verification.

Didn’t work? See…

  • “Invalid email or password”: check the email (it’s the same one the invite went to) and your keyboard (caps lock).
  • I didn’t get the invite to create my password: see The invitation expired or didn’t arrive.
  • The manager sees “Managers only” when opening the team: their role is salesperson. See Roles and permissions.
