How to connect your Shopify store to TraceClose

Updated

Create the Shopify connection in Settings › Integrations and copy the webhook URL. In your store admin, under Settings › Notifications › Webhooks, create one order payment webhook and one refund webhook with that URL, and paste the store’s signing key into TraceClose.

Step by step

  1. Create the connection in TraceClose

In Settings › Integrations, click New connection and, under Checkout sales, choose Shopify. Keep the tab open: the screen shows the Webhook URL (with a copy button) and the Signing key field.

  2. Open the store’s webhooks

In the Shopify admin, open Settings › Notifications and scroll down to Webhooks. Whoever creates them needs access to the store settings.

  3. Copy the signing key

In the webhooks section, Shopify shows the key it uses to sign the store’s webhooks (“Your webhooks will be signed with…”). Copy it and paste it into the Signing key field in TraceClose.

  4. Create the payment webhook

Click Create webhook. Under Event, choose Order payment; under Format, JSON; under URL, paste the TraceClose URL; for the API version, the latest one. Save.

  5. Create the refund webhook

Repeat with the Refund create event and the same URL. That way, a refund cancels the sale in TraceClose.

  6. Pick the options and save

Choose whether to keep sending Purchase to Meta (on by default; if the checkout pixel already sends the purchase, see below) and whether an unpaid checkout becomes a lead (off by default). Click Save.

  7. Test it

In the ⋯ menu on the webhook’s row, use Send test. The event shows up on the connection in TraceClose as the last event received.

Which URL to use

The dashboard shows the URL ready to copy, in the format https://t.traceclose.com/webhooks/sales/shopify/<connection-id>. It only works for that connection.

Checkouts started but not paid (optional)

To let salespeople win back shoppers who started a purchase and stopped, turn on unpaid checkout becomes a lead in the connection and create one more webhook with the Checkout creation event. The lead comes in with its source, with no sale and no Purchase.

What happens in TraceClose

  • An approved sale becomes a sale in TraceClose, with the amount paid and the order’s currency, credited to the lead’s salesperson. The lead moves to the won stage.
  • The lead is matched by the checkout link reference, then by phone, then by email. No match: the lead is created with the source the checkout stored and goes into the rotation.
  • An existing lead keeps its source and salesperson: someone who came from a click-to-WhatsApp ad stays credited to that ad.
  • Refunds and chargebacks cancel the sale. The same delivery resent by the platform never creates duplicates.

To match the sale to the right lead even when the buyer pays with a different email or phone, use Copy checkout link in the lead details: paste the product URL and TraceClose adds the lead reference to the platform’s tracking parameter. In Shopify, the reference goes in the tc_ref parameter of the store link, and Shopify stores on the order the address the buyer arrived from. The UTMs in that address are also used as the source for a new lead.

If the Meta pixel is already installed on the platform’s checkout and sends Purchase, choose who sends the purchase: turn off Purchase sending in this connection with one click (or turn off Purchase in the checkout pixel). That way Meta gets the sale only once, and it still shows up in the dashboard and in ROAS.

Didn’t work? See…

  • The webhook disappeared from the list: Shopify deletes a webhook on its own when it responds with an error too many times in a row. Check the connection in TraceClose (active and with the right key) and create the webhook again.
  • Authentication error on the connection: the key in TraceClose doesn’t match the store’s signing key. Copy it again and save it in Edit.
  • The sale arrived but didn’t reach Meta: see the sale doesn’t show up in Meta.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install an app in the store?

No. The webhook is created in the store’s own settings, with no app.

Do orders paid by boleto or Pix come in?

Yes, once the payment is confirmed, because the webhook is the order payment one.

Are shipping and discounts included in the amount?

The amount recorded is the total the buyer paid for the order, in the store’s currency.
